“This is an exquisite location for connoisseurs. Tucked in the quietest and in my view most coherently preserved Saxon village in Transylvania, Giovanna’s Red House in Copsa Mare is hard to forget. Of course, all the standard stuff (cleanliness, communication, comfort) are impeccable. In fact it is clearly the cleanest property we stayed during our long trip through Central Europe. What one needs to know is that this is an 18th century cottage restored with bespoke knowledge and love to an extent that is hard to encounter. We were there in the middle of a heat wave and the thick walls and vine reaching above the yard in a gorgeous canopy kept is more than comfortable. There was a sense of utter luxury reading on the deck, protected from the heat outside with no need of AC and fans. The dinner served in the designer barn looking straight out of Tuscany (except more beautiful) was paradise incarnate. As bees buzzed in the garden’s flowers and linden trees, we had an incredible cacciatore feast with chilled homemade soda as children frolicked in the rich meadows stretching behind the barn. We will be back next year, with our favourite friends and stay much longer than the three days we spent there, our riding boots in tow.”
